Overview
Oil storage tanks are a natural partner to oil filtration. Substations, utilities and transformer factories usually need one tank for incoming or used oil and another for filtered oil, so treated oil never mixes with dirty oil.
TOFM designs and fabricates every tank around the stored medium, the volume and the site. We manufacture dished ends in-house and supply tanks with saddles, nozzles, manholes, ladders and a protective paint finish. Alongside oil storage tanks, we build pressure vessel tanks, buffer tanks and chemical storage tanks.
Which tank types does TOFM make?

Oil storage tank
Holds transformer oil, lubricants, fuel or process oil safely between filling, filtration and use. Our main tank type, often supplied as a clean and used oil pair with a TOFM filtration machine.
- Transformer oil storage at substations
- Clean and used oil tanks for filtration
- Lubricant and fuel storage
- Mobile tanks for moving oil between sites

Pressure vessel tank
Stores or processes liquids or gases at a pressure different from atmospheric. TOFM builds pressure vessel tanks for design conditions up to 1 bar and 65 °C, tested by hydrostatic or pressure test, or to the client's specification.
- Vacuum receivers
- Compressed air and gas receivers
- Process and oil processing vessels

Buffer tank
An intermediate tank that absorbs the difference between incoming and outgoing flow, so pumps, filters and downstream equipment run steadily.
- Between supply tanks and filtration machines
- Process flow balancing
- Pump protection and reduced cycling

Chemical storage tank
Holds chemicals and process liquids, with the material of construction chosen for the chemical. Vertical conical-bottom designs drain completely.
- Chemical and process liquid storage
- Water and effluent storage
- Batch and mixing tanks

Frequently asked questions
What sizes of storage tank does TOFM make?
TOFM custom fabricates tanks up to 40,000 litres. The size is set by your oil or liquid volume, the equipment it serves and the space on site.
Can the tank be mobile?
Yes. TOFM supplies mobile tanks for moving oil between sites, and stationary tanks for fixed installations.
Why use separate tanks for clean and used transformer oil?
Separate tanks stop filtered oil from being re-contaminated by used oil. They also let the filtration machine run continuously from one tank to the other.
Which design standards does TOFM follow for tanks?
TOFM designs storage tanks to IS 803:1976 and IS 10987:1992, or to the client's specification. Pressure vessel tanks are built for design conditions up to 1 bar and 65 °C and tested by hydrostatic or pressure test, or as the client requires.
What does a buffer tank do?
It stores a working volume between two process stages so that differences in flow rate do not disturb the equipment downstream. This keeps pumps and filters running steadily.
Which material is best for a chemical storage tank?
It depends on the chemical, its concentration and temperature. Stainless steel suits many chemicals, but some need other materials or linings. Share the chemical details and TOFM will recommend the material.
What is the minimum order and lead time?
TOFM accepts orders from 1 tank. Manufacturing takes up to 60 to 70 days depending on size and specification.
